The State Claims Agency (SCA), the claims and risk management function of the National Treasury Management Agency (NTMA) held the Enterprise Risk Network Recognition Awards ceremony for Delegated State Authorities (DSAs) in No. 6 Kildare Street, on Thursday 8th November 2018 as part of the Enterprise Risk Network (ERN), the network for enterprise risk management professionals in the State sector in Ireland.
The Enterprise Risk Network Recognition Awards enable risk professionals in DSAs to showcase their work in the area of enterprise risk management and promote the positive outcomes that can be achieved by implementing risk management initiatives.
This year’s award categories were based on a series of values such as encouraging a culture of long term value; adapting and responding to new challenges; being people focused; and facilitating collaboration with other organisations. In addition, two National Incident Management System (NIMS) incident reporting and investigation awards were presented. More than 100 submissions were made across the six categories – making this the biggest Enterprise Risk Network Recognition Awards to date.
Speaking at the Awards ceremony, which was attended by representatives from across the State and health and social care sectors, Ciarán Breen, Director of the SCA, said:
“These Awards present a rare opportunity to come together to reflect on the great work that is happening in relation to enterprise risk management in the State sector. It is very encouraging, as Director of the SCA, to see the high level of commitment to continuous improvement and progress in the management of enterprise risk in these organisations. Through this event, we want to encourage all DSAs to keep striving towards the greater goal of creating workplaces, which are not only safe, but which promote good health and wellbeing. That is what these Awards are all about.”
Pat Kirwan, Deputy Director of the SCA and Executive Head of Business, Risk and Operations and Chairperson of the Enterprise Risk Network, also congratulated the winners and the finalists on their achievements:
“Eleven years ago, the Enterprise Risk Management Section of the SCA founded the ERN based on the belief that the State and public sectors could be leaders in enterprise risk management. Following the presentation of these Awards, we are asking the winners, and all finalists, to go back to their organisations to promote this accomplishment, but also to use the achievement to promote enterprise risk management as a vital function and as a profession.”

The Enterprise Risk Network (ERN) is a network for risk management professionals in the State sector in Ireland. Since its launch in 2007, the ERN has proven to be an effective vehicle for the State authorities, healthcare enterprises and the State Claims Agency (SCA) to engage with each other in relation to the key risk management issues impacting State organisations. The Network also provides a knowledge-sharing function whereby individual ERN members can share their knowledge, insights and experience, as well as join in discussions with other organisations in the public sector risk universe.
